Having just leafed through the instruction manual of an XBox
manual, it is obvious that the XBox Live system was not at the
forefront of the manual writers mind. Here are a few FAQ's about
connecting your Xbox to the internet. Do I need ADSL to
use Xbox Live?
To use the the Xbox Live system you need a broadband connection.
Can I use any ISP for the broadband?
Theoretically, yes, but some ISPs prevent certain ports being
accessed which may stop games being played. There is a list of
ISP's that have been tested on the
www.xboxlive.com site. Our
service has not been specifically tested, but we are resellers
of BT Broadband system so it should be okay.
Can I use any ADSL modem?
No, The XBox, has been fitted with a LAN port (ethernet) which
needs to be connected to either a router or a hub. USB modems
cannot be used without the use of additional routing equipment.
The use of ADSL routers on a single user account is not allowed
within the terms of the contract for most ISPs.
Do you sell a suitable ADSL router?
Yes! (surprise surprise). Any of the following list will work
fine:
Samsung E300 ADSL Router
Samsung E350 ADSL Router and 4 Port
Hub
Vigor 2600 ADSL Router and 4 Port Hub
Vigor 2600X ADSL Router, 4 Port Hub
with ISDN Support
You will also need an ADSL
Microfilter for your phones.
